| How
to Assemble Your Arrows |
|
- Cut
shafts to length
with a high speed abrasive wheel like the Apple Cut
Off Tool. It is a good idea to use a vacuum tube next
to the cut off tool in order to collect as much dust
from the cutting. Make sure you use a NIOSH approved
dust mask and eye protection such as safety glasses
when cutting arrow shafts.
- Clean
the ends of the shaft with denatured alcohol.
It is important to clean out all carbon dust for good
adhesion.
- Points/inserts.
Apply a small amount of epoxy glue to the surface
of the point/insert. Rotate the point/insert slowly
while applying it to the shaft. Stand the shafts on
the opposite ends and let sit. This prevents glue
from getting into the threaded area). Let sit for
24 hours for a complete cure. For even better adhesion,
score the inside of the shaft before installing the
point/insert.
- Nocks.
Although most archers want a self tuning type nock,
once it is tuned to the proper location, it is advisable
to use Bohning’s PowerBond Glue. This gluing
process will cut down the damaging vibration discrepancies
between carbon and plastic (this causes cracking!).
Other glues may attack the plastic and cause it to
fatigue, become brittle or soften to a point serious
damage. That is why we only recommend Bohning’s
PowerBond glue. It does not attack the plastic in
any way. Also, if you damage the nock while shooting,
you can lightly heat the damaged nock and pull directly
out. The heat will break the bond between the nock
and shaft.
- Nock
adapters. Apply a small amount of glue to
the surface of the adapter. Rotate adapter slowly
while applying it to the shaft. We do not recommend
any type of super glues. They appear to become brittle
and crystallize which will break the bond that holds
the nock adapters to the shaft. If you bend or break
the adapter, reheat the metal adapter lightly and
pull directly out.
